There was a time when wearing the same outfit twice was simply called getting dressed.
Somewhere along the way, fashion changed.
We began to feel like every event needed a new dress. Every season needed a new wardrobe. And once something had been photographed or worn to a special occasion, we sometimes treated it as though its story was finished.
But clothing was never meant to be disposable.
And one of the most photographed women in the world is helping remind us of that.
The Princess of Wales Is an Outfit Repeater
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is known around the world for her style. She wears beautiful designer pieces, attends formal events, and is photographed almost everywhere she goes.
And she wears her clothes again.
Not just casual pieces, either.
She has repeatedly brought dresses, coats, suits, shoes, and accessories back out of her wardrobe for important public appearances. Sometimes she styles them differently. Sometimes a garment is altered or updated. Sometimes she simply wears it again because it is still beautiful.
And I love that.
Because if a princess can stand in front of the world's cameras wearing something she has worn before, why should the rest of us feel embarrassed about doing the same?
Beautiful Clothing Deserves More Than One Moment
I grew up surrounded by women who sewed.
Clothing was made with care. It was repaired when something happened to it. It was altered when bodies changed. Pieces were passed down, transformed, and given another life.
You didn't throw away a beautiful garment simply because you had already worn it.
That philosophy has stayed with me throughout my 20+ years of sewing, tailoring, alterations, and creating for my clients.
When I look at a piece of clothing, I don't just see what it is today.
I see what it could become.
Maybe the dress hanging in the back of your closet doesn't fit quite right anymore.
Maybe the jacket you once loved feels dated.
Maybe your body has changed.
Maybe you bought something beautiful but never reach for it because one little detail bothers you.
That doesn't necessarily mean you need something new.
Sometimes you simply need to look at what you already own with new eyes.
Rewear. Restyle. Alter. Reinvent.
Rewearing clothing doesn't mean wearing the exact same outfit in the exact same way forever.
Fashion should be creative.
A dress can be shortened.
A waist can be reshaped.
A jacket can be tailored.
Sleeves can change.
A garment can be restyled with different shoes, jewelry, belts, layers, or accessories.
And sometimes a piece simply needs to fit your body properly again.
That is one of the things I love most about alterations. A relatively small change can take something from "I never wear this" to "Why did I ever stop wearing this?"
Slow Fashion Doesn't Mean Giving Up Fashion
There is a misconception that sustainable or slow fashion means you have to stop loving beautiful clothes.
I don't believe that at all.
I love fashion.
I love beautiful fabrics, thoughtful construction, incredible designers, interesting silhouettes, and the feeling of putting on something that fits beautifully.
Slow fashion isn't about loving fashion less.
It's about valuing our clothing more.
Buy thoughtfully.
Choose quality when you can.
Take care of what you own.
Repair what can be repaired.
Alter what can be altered.
Reimagine what no longer feels like you.
And when you find something you truly love?
Wear it again.
Your Closet May Have More Possibilities Than You Think
Before you decide you have "nothing to wear," take another look inside your closet.
Pull out the dress you haven't worn in three years.
Try on the blazer that doesn't quite fit anymore.
Look at the beautiful piece you bought for one special occasion and decided you could never wear again.
Ask yourself:
What would make me love this again?
Sometimes the answer isn't a shopping trip.
Sometimes it's a hem.
A new fit.
A small repair.
A creative alteration.
Or simply giving yourself permission to wear something beautiful for the second, fifth, or fifteenth time.
Because great style was never supposed to be disposable.
Clothing can have chapters.
And if a princess can rewear her clothes, so can we.
Renew. Reuse. Reimagine.
At Perini Atelier, I believe beautiful clothing deserves more than one chapter. Through thoughtful alterations, tailoring, repairs, and bespoke craftsmanship, we can help the pieces you already own fit your body and your life again.
Before replacing something you once loved, let's see what it can become.
